I think I’ll stick with Disk Drill for now. I already tried it using the free limit, but didn’t buy the full version yet. I’ll probably do that only if I actually end up deleting something from my SD card or run into a real problem. Picked it mostly because it feels pretty universal in terms of use cases, and it was easy enough to understand without digging through tutorials. At first I was thinking about going with PhotoRec, but quickly realized that kind of tool just isn’t for me.
